Our school
Our mission is to preserve traditional healing knowledge and make professional education accessible, affordable and useful in everyday practice.
AMOM was founded in Michigan to make the study of traditional Oriental medicine and bodywork available to people who want to build a profession helping others. Our home is Michigan; our outlook reaches across the United States and around the world. We are building a school where students from different places can learn together and prepare for professional life.
Our ambition is to become one of America’s leading massage therapy schools. As Michigan’s only Oriental medicine school, we build a bridge between Eastern bodywork traditions and Western anatomy, physiology and modern professional practice. Students learn how the body works, develop their hands and learn to listen carefully to the person in front of them.
Some students arrive ready to begin their first career. Others bring years of experience in a different field, or a long-standing interest in natural approaches to wellness. We welcome that range of experience. What matters is a willingness to study, practise and take the responsibilities of client care seriously.
The classroom, teaching clinic and community are connected parts of an AMOM education. Knowledge becomes more useful when students can explain it, practise it and apply it with care.
Teaching & practice
Learning a hands-on profession takes repetition and feedback. Our instructors guide students from understanding a technique to practising it with purpose.

Anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and pathology give students a foundation for understanding the body. Models, visual references and practical study help connect those subjects to the work of massage therapy.
Demonstration, supervised practice and individual corrections are part of learning here. Students work on pressure, positioning, movement and body mechanics while developing confidence in their own hands.
Clinical learning also means preparing a space, communicating clearly, obtaining consent and respecting boundaries. Hygiene, documentation and professional conduct belong alongside technique from the beginning.
Our hybrid format combines online academic learning with in-person practical instruction. The hands-on parts of training take place at the school, where students can practise and receive guidance.

Our community
AMOM welcomes students from across the United States and around the world. Our community has included learners from China, Germany, Spain, Thailand, Korea, Japan and the Philippines, as well as Michigan and other American communities. Students bring different languages, life experiences and reasons for choosing this work.
Hundreds of graduates are part of the school’s story. Class gatherings, course completions and graduation celebrations mark the time and effort that students put into their education.
Community practice also brings learning beyond the classroom. Working with people helps students understand that good care involves attentiveness, communication and respect as well as skilled technique.
We want students to leave with practical ability, professional habits and a clear understanding of their next steps. Study support and exam preparation help connect coursework with the requirements of entering the profession.
